Cougars Fall to Huntington in Hutzell

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The USF women's volleyball team played host to the Huntington University Foresters Saturday afternoon. Saint Francis (Ind.) fell to the Foresters in 4 sets, but had a very commanding 1st set win.

After a commanding 1st set win from the Cougars, attacking errors along with service errors took over and the Foresters were able to capitalize on these mistakes to take the match. As a team the Cougars tallied 45 kills, 16 of which came from Paige Fortkamp and 11 from Addison Shafer. Fortkamp also contributed 11 assists as well, but Jo Delsing led the way for USF with 20 assists. Hannah Sweeney recorded back-to-back service aces and went on a huge serving run in the 1st and 3rd sets to help the Cougar prowess. Sweeney also contributed 12 digs in the back court to assist Alexis Gregory who led with 14 and Kelby Godschmeding added in 8 digs as well. Ellie Ferris & Kate McMullen each tallied 3 block assists at the net, forcing the Foresters to scramble & rally. Kendel Frey also subbed in from the Cougar bench and contributed 2 digs & 1 assisted block.

Overall USF is now 5-15 overall and 1-8 in Crossroads League Play. Saint Francis (Ind.) will return to action on Wednesday, October 4th on the road at Huntignton University in Huntington, Indiana. First serve is projected to start at 7pm in Ruth Gunden Gymnasium.
