Cougars Topped by Foresters in Four
HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) volleyball team faced the Foresters of Huntington University in a road Crossroads League match on Wednesday, October 9.
Saint Francis fell to Huntington by a final score of 3-1, with set scores of 16-25, 25-12, 25-27, and 20-25.
After Huntington took a 1-0 lead in the match, the Cougars' impressive .615 attacking percentage in set two helped propel them to the 25-12 victory. The third set included 10 ties and nine lead changes as the Cougars and the Forestester fought a tough back-and-forth battle. With the score at set point in favor of Huntington, USF battled back to tie the set at 25 and force extra points. Huntington would hang on to win sets three and four for a 3-1 final on Wednesday night.
As a team, the Cougars finished the night with 48 kills, 10 total blocks, and eight service aces. Paige Fortkamp led USF with 20 kills, followed by Addison Shafer with 13 kills. Freshman Teigen Fortkamp collected 38 assists and two aces. Hannah Sweeney had a team-high 15 digs, while Kayla Gumbel led in blocks with one solo and two block assists.
Up next, USF volleyball (8-14, 1-9) will travel to Indianapolis to play the Marian University Knights on Saturday, October 12.
