Cougars Sweep Maple Leafs

GOSHEN, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) volleyball team swept the Goshen College Maple Leafs on the road on Saturday, October 19. 

The Cougars won Saturday afternoon's match by a final score of 3-0, with set scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-23.

USF came out of the gates firing on all cylinders on their way to a 13-4 lead in the opening set. Paige Fortkamp would end the first set with a kill to give Saint Francis the first set win 25-21. USF's offense stayed hot in the second set, with the Cougars finishing with a .367 attacking percentage to take the 2-0 lead in the match. In the third set, USF was able to establish a lead early, but the Maple Leafs put together a rally to cut the Cougars' lead to 23-22. A kill from Kyra Parker followed by an attacking error by Goshen gave Saint Francis the 25-23 win, securing the 3-0 sweep.

As a team, USF finished the night with 38 kills, eight service aces and six block assists. Paige Fortkamp led with 13 kills and four aces, followed by sophomore Kayla Gumbel and freshman Teigen Fortkamp with eight kills apiece. Teigen Fortkamp also had 26 assists on Saturday night. Kate McMullen had two block assists, while Emily Hughes added a solo block for the Cougars.

Up next, USF volleyball (9-16, 2-11) will host the Lancers of Grace College for a mid-week conference matchup on October 23 at 7:00 p.m.
