Paige Fortkamp Breaks All-Time Program Kills Record at Bethel
MISHAWAKA, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's volleyball team traveled to Bethel University for a conference matchup against the Pilots on Saturday, November 2.
The Cougars fell to the Pilots 3-0, with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.
With her fifth kill of the first set, senior outside hitter Paige Fortkamp broke the USF program record for career kills with her 1,473rd career kill. Needing just five kills to break the mark of 1,472 set by Allison Horn (2000-2004), Fortkamp led the Cougars with 11 total kills during Saturday's match.
"Paige has become one of the most dynamic players in the conference and across the NAIA landscape," USF volleyball head coach Scott Haddix said."She's always had a huge arm swing but she's improved in all aspects of the game which has allowed her to be a better scorer and helped her achieve this milestone."
After bringing the Cougars back to within three with her record-setting kill at 21-18 in favor of the Pilots, Bethel would hang on to win set one for the 1-0 lead in the match. USF and Bethel battled back and forth in the second set, but the Pilots would come out on top 25-21 for the 2-0 lead. In the third set that saw seven ties, an ace from Alexa Sparks would knot the score at 18-18. Bethel would score to retake the lead and go on a short run en route to the third set win.
Teigen Fortkamp finished the match with 19 assists, nine digs and three service aces. Junior libero Hannah Sweeney tallied 12 digs. Kate McMullen collected two solo blocks, and Emily Hughes had a team-high four block assists on the afternoon.
Up next, USF volleyball (11-18, 4-13) will travel to Mishawaka, Ind. for a Crossroads League match at Bethel on November 2.
