Freshman Francisco Moura Knocks in Two in 6-1 Victory for Cougars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Saturday afternoon the University of Saint Francis Cougars (5-0-1) played host to the Franklin College Grizzlies (0-5) at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium and continued their hot start with a 6-1 victory.

In the first half the Cougars came out strong but couldn't find the net early as both teams went back-and-forth in the opening minutes. Then in the 15th minute the Cougars got a bad break as a bounce went the way of the Grizzlies and they knocked it past freshman goalkeeper Joe Deitering to give Franklin a 1-0 lead.

But the Cougars came right back and then junior midfielder Daniel Eleuterio passed the ball across the field to junior midfielder Mateo Abella who then knocked in the Cougars' first goal of the game to tie the score at one.

After that, Abella's goal sparked the Cougars in the 20th minute. Another goal followed less than five minutes later from Eleuterio who scored his fourth goal of the week on a pass from junior midfielder Enrique Subiran to double the lead.

But Saint Francis wasn't done there. Just five minutes later freshman defender Francisco Moura knocked in his first goal of the season as the Cougars took a 3-1 lead into halftime.

Coming into the second half the Cougars didn't skip a beat as they continued to go on the offensive, creating one scoring opportunity after another.

After a couple stellar saves by the Grizzlies' goalkeeper, the Cougars kept pressing. A fourth goal was then scored in the 69th minute as Moura knocked in his second goal of the game off a bad bounce from the Grizzlies. Saint Francis now led 4-1.

A fifth goal scored in the 71st minute by freshman midfielder Dalton Blankenbaker and another in the 90th minute scored by junior defender Guilherme Girotto was icing on the cake as the Cougars cruised to another win.

Throughout the game the Cougars managed 15 shots on goal with six going in while freshman goalkeeper Joe Deitering only had to make one save on just two shots on goal from the Grizzlies.

The Cougars resume play on Wednesday evening when they play host to the Manchester University Spartans (0-2-1) at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium beginning at 8:00 pm.
