Cougars Drop Season Finale 1-0 Against Taylor Trojans

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Saturday evening the University of Saint Francis Cougars (7-9-2; 0-8-1 Crossroads) played host to the Taylor University Trojans (5-8-5; 3-4-2 Crossroads) at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium for their final game of the 2022 season and fell 1-0 after a hard-fought battle.

In addition to Saturday's game, the Cougars celebrated their annual Senior Night by honoring those who's efforts and dedication have been a positive asset for the program during their collegiate tenures: Daniel Vaides, Rocky Stout, and Ivan Altimirano.

Opening the game, both teams battled through an arduous first half. Freshman goalkeeper Joe Deitering stepped in the make the saves he made, but the Cougars couldn't find the net themselves as several great saves were made by the Trojans' goalkeeper.

The half continued to progress, and the intensity was getting higher. Then in the final five minutes, a breakaway by the Trojans gave them their best scoring chance yet, but Deitering made the save of the game as he knocked the ball away and sent the game to halftime a scoreless tie.

During the first half the Cougars managed four shots while the Trojans got eight, with three on net, all saved by Deitering.

Heading into the second half the script remained relatively similar as both with both teams staying aggressive and getting scoring chances.

A couple of more shots by the Cougars either went wide or were kept out by a few more brilliant saves by the Trojans' goalkeeper kept the game scoreless. The game progressed and both teams managed a few more scoring chances, and then in the 80th minute the Trojans found a way to get the ball past Deitering as the game's first goal came on a deflection.

The Cougars continued to scratch and claw to find a way to tie the game, but the Trojans were able to fend them off as they drop the season finale.

Throughout the game the Cougars managed four shots on goal while Deitering made four saves against five shots on net.
