FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team broke into the winning column defeating the Indiana University East Red Wolves, 2-1. The Cougars broke their goal drought 25 seconds into the match with Carlee Biddle chipping the IU-East goalkeeper.
The Cougars out-possessed the Red Wolves for the entirety of the match and built from the back very well due to the center-back duo of Jaylin Carroll and Abby Wozny. The trio of Ava Slater, Courtney Tobin, and Grace Hein helped to build forward through the middle where Slater showed ridiculous composure on the pitch to connect forward and break lines through to Biddle.
Grace Morris, Taylor Keenan, MacKenzie Christle, Nikki Laidley, & Kiersten Parker came in off the bench for the Cougars and contributed to the team win. The Lady Cougs led until the 61st minute of the match, until the Red Wolves poured on some pressure to tie things at 1 from a Maggie Bischoff goal.
Flank play from Haley Roberson & Haley Brenner were also key contributors to the Cougar attack & transitional play along with Brenner's game-saving shot-blocked in the 81st minute.
The Lady Cougars reset after Brenner's effort to keep the game at a stand still, by pouring on pressure in their final third to allow Carlee Biddle onto the ball. Biddle's hold-up play and negative ball into Grace Morris allowed the Morris-strike from 25-yards out for the game winner in the 88th minute. USF tallied 13 shots to IU-East's 15 and recorded 4 corner kicks. Senior, Amber Morgan pulled another 90-minutes and made 4 saves, only allowing 1 goal.
The Lady Cougars are now 1-3-2 overall. USF will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan for their next match on Wednesday, September 13th to take on Concordia University Ann Arbor (Mich.). Kick-off is set for 1pm eastern time at Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium.
